Thanks for that Lynne. Since this happens for both cases can you please attach the following log files to see if we can spot any issues.
In the directory "/var/log/dist-upgrade" there are three files, "main.log", "apt.log" and "term.log" can you attach a copy of each of these. In "/var/log/apt" there is a file called "term.log" attach a copy of that to please. Maybe there is a logged error in these files that might help identify the issue. Has this problem happened before or this the first time?
