I confirm this issue with Ubuntu Linux 6.10 (i386).
It is important to note that the test document requires to have a char embedded
in a slide.
On my case, to replicate:
1. Open the test document (attached next)
2. Double-click on a chart in order to open it.
3. Close the document

OpenOffice.org crashes; it reopens the file and guides you through the
recovery of the file.

All credit for find out this bug report goes to g1annis (ubuntu-gr
mailing list).
