On the working previous kernel(3.0.0.12), the nvidia proprietary driver
is being loaded, but not on new kernel(3.0.0.13) this causes the vesafb,
which is always loaded, to be used.

How did you originally install the nvidia driver for 3.0.0.12?   You may
want to check if the nvidia driver is being built/enabled with the new
kernel.
