Public bug reported:

I am having this particular problem on my Samsung N130 netbook.

When I login to my XFCE desktop, screen starts to flicker heavily and
the entire X11 interface becomes frozen. The Fn keys for tuning the
display brightness have no effect whatsoever.

The only way to get over this is to switch to console window with
Alt+Ctrl+F2, and back to X11 with Alt+F7. However, this trick does not
always help.

The same thing happens when I try to adjust the brightness of my screen
with Fn keys, or when the XFCE changes the display brightness for power
saving purposes.

When checking the system logs (or running dmesg), there are large number
of messages, pointing to samsung_laptop kernel module:

samsung_laptop: SABI set command 0x01 failed with completion flag 0xaa
and data 0xff

It's a critical bug, since it essentially renders N130 netbooks useless.
