In fact, there are not any error messages about CD-ROM or scsi from the
'dmesg', and we can observe that the CD-ROM drive(sr0) has been found
by kernel. Also kernel won't print any messages if a CD or DVD is plugged
into the drive.
So could you do the two tests below and post the results?
1, plug a ubuntu release DVD into drive, and mount /dev/sr0 manually with
the command below:
sudo mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/sr0 /mnt
2, replace the old CD-ROM drive in the Optiplex 360 with another good
drive to reproduce #1 if step #1 fails.
