I am also having this issue. My box is running Ubuntu 11.04 and is a dedicated MythTV box, so failing to shut down properly is a huge issue. I have other machines with 11.04 is shutting done fine so it must be related to specific hardware configurations. It hangs in the shutdown screen with the words "waiting...". I have looked in boot.log, dmesg and syslog but no suspicious messages.
I have tried the workaround in #95, but no sucess. I dont have any wireless networking so the suggestion in #31 wouldnt apply ( i guess) uname -a gives: Linux edoras 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:50:42 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I have nvidia drivers installed, which seem to be causing problems(?). I will also try a kernel update to 3.1 as this seem to have been succesful for some.
