Public bug reported:

I updated my software recently and ever since I get a popping/crackling sound
through the speakers. The popping starts before the initial login window (GDM)
and continues as long as the system is running. I have an ASRock motherboard
and the sound is identified as Realtek ALC892. I ran the alsa script and here
is what I got:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=3e3d0e8f84ea97f6467f475aeebb8bf9eb708609

Every time the sound pops (about 6 times a second) music is interrupted
if played (continues popping without any sound played) and certain
graphical interfaces respond in weird ways (volume slider jumps back and
forth, ALSA mixer mute check boxes jump from off to on and back to off).

System:
Ubuntu 11.10 with latest updates

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
