Thank you for reorganising the bug report to be more logical.
The failing document was originally (years ago) created using MS Excell. It
was then maintained using OpenOffice and then LibreOffice. I am not aware of
any reason that it should have become corrupted. The actual document I have
posted here is a much cut down version of the original which fails, I removed
as much of it as I could whilst still retaining the failure mode.
I am not able to reproduce the problem starting with a good document.
I am quite prepared to believe that the problem is due to a corruption of some
sort, the main point of the bug is that opening it in one way leads to success
whereas another silently fails (if opened via the launcher or double clicking)
with no indication that there is in fact anything in the spreadsheet at all.
However if that would not be accepted as a valid bug upstream then so be it. I
would have hoped that someone who understands the file format would at least
have a look at the file to see what the problem is.

I did not mention it in the report, but is the fact that if I open it
using libreoffice test4.ods then do a Save As then the corruption
persists in the new file?
