Sorry, I doubt that it is fixed in Oneiric. Trying to switch from Natty to Oneiric (latest patches) I tested it yesterday. My Sierra did not work. I produced some debug output. Please have a look:

Oneiric modem-manager still kills the modem via sending CFUN=1.
