I even made a package kernel-image-2.6.16-686 using Debians linux-
tree-2.6.16 2.6.16-17 with config from linux-image-2.6.16-2-686
2.6.16-17, but got the same error (!) :

After this I replaced busybox (and initramfs) by versions from debian
stable / backports:
sudo apt-get install initramfs-tools/sarge-backports busybox-cvs-static
sudo update-initramfs -u -v -k 2.6.15-26-686
result was again:

So I gave up and went back to normal packages and configurations :(
