Hi Michael, The bit I wrote about changing the default sample rate completely solves the Mickey Mouse voice which you are suffering from. When I saw this I decided to buy the webcam, but I think that was a mistake. I had a simple webcam for 1/3 of the price which worked fine every time. A friend of mine convinced me to buy the "better" camera and then I discovered the microphone was totally unreliable. When it worked at all, the voice was correct, but it wouldn't reliably give me a voice (at all). The camera part gives a nicer picture, but the microphone, which works with pulse audio, is a disaster.
The simple webcam also had a built in microphone but it didn't use pulse audio. It worked well all the time. What I had to test was Chicony ICAM8124. I'm sure any simple webcam will work. Just these "super duper, pooper scoopers" have problems. The simple ones don't use pulse audio.
