I have the same problem on my Ubuntu 11.10 install.

Dual booting Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64 and Windows 7 Professional x64.
Windows is almost three times as fast a Ubuntu when booting. Also,
logging out takes about a minute from pressing Logout to beeing
able to login again.

That's on a SATAIII OCZ Vertex 3 drive, a Core i7 930 @ 2,8GHz and 12Gb
of RAM! Since I'm reading on the net about the network-manager possibly
having something to do with this, maybe it'll help stating i'm on a wired
connection exclusively.
