The problem appears to be SOLVED.

I commented out the last line of the fstab that mounts an nfs file share 
(thanks to the suggestion of user roadmr).
Restarted and now after 3 attemps of suspending and hibernating worked without 
any problems. 

Tomorrow I'll try a stress test to see if the solution is stable, using
