Hi there!
I too have this bug.
I have removed the newtork manager and set up dhcp with interfaces.
Seems like the shutdown command is too aggressive (my 2 cents)
temp fix, i've disabled Shutdown by
chmod 0 /sbin/shutdown
i'll use iboot to restart my ubuntu 11.10 for time being.
ubuntu 11.10 is so awsome!!!
