mtom: I'm just throwing around ideas. I have no way to know for sure what is causing your issue. Bug #109643 is definitely the nvidia binary drivers having a bad interaction with CPU scaling though.
Before I forget, you might want to try running a memtest for a few hours on your system and running down the things on this checklist http://people.redhat.com/davej/hardware-problems.txt .
