The vdt-globus-common package that is reported to clash with globus-
common-progs is a third party package. The VDT globus packages contains
the same software as the globus packages in Debisn/Ubuntu. That they
clash is to be expected, but is not a packaging problem with the globus
packages in Debian/Ubuntu.

As a user you should decide whether you want to use the packages in
Debian/Ubuntu or the ones in the VDT third party distribution. You
should take all globus packages from the same repository. Mixing
packages from the two distributions is not a good idea, since you will
get conflicting dependencies, as you have found out.
