Would it be possible for you to try with the latest upstream qemu?
sudo apt-get build-dep qemu-kvm
sudo apt-get install git
git clone git://git.qemu.org/qemu.git
cd qemu
./configure --target-list=x86_64-softmmu
make
then run with
./x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 (qemu-arguments)
