Haven't been able to do a fresh install, filed bug #905411.
Downloading alternate installer right now  :)
I'm not super hopeful, though, considering the live CD has the same problem 
with the wireless.

I went back and found some of the threads discussing the fact that the kernel 
driver sucks and it needs to be downloaded and re-compiled from the realtek 
website (it didn't compile for me on Precise):
