I have the same exact problem with my system on Ubuntu Natty 64-bit. I
tried updating to the most recent ALSA driver daily version,
uninstalling/re-installing, etc., hoping that perhaps something I did
would resolve the situation, but nothing helped. Ubuntu with no sound
reduces its usefulness a lot -- videos have no sound, can't listen to
music, etc. Any hope of a fix?
