The laptop used to run Windows Me, then it was upgraded to XP, no other
OS's have ever run on it before. Now I want to switch it to Ubuntu
only. I have discovered that other's have had similar problems due to
ACPI. Here is the link to one such occurance:

I do not know if "acpi=false" is the answer as I have not had the
opportunity to try it yet.
