I've installed the testing kernel from Kamal Mostafa's ppa and it solved the issue. Now the alternating brightness problem disappeared from my Dell Latitude D430. More details about the patch can be found at the following address https://launchpad.net/~kamalmostafa/+archive/inverted-backlight
