I used to suffer from a similar problem. Mine was related to the jack daemon. I ran alsamixer (from terminal) changed all values to 0, plugged AUX jack, then rebooted. After start up I changed them all back to original values, then rebooted. While rebooting I unplugged jack,. Now sound works.
I know you are probably looking for a permanent solution. I hope this helps you. If it doesn't, try running lmms, for some reason it invokes sound.
