I got somewhat further. It seems to be not a kernel problem, because it works on the command line:
aplay -D hdmi:CARD=PCH,DEV=0 /usr/share/sounds/ekiga/ring.wav does not work, but aplay -D hdmi:CARD=PCH,DEV=1 /usr/share/sounds/ekiga/ring.wav plays the sound over HDMI . :-) DEV=1 is what's needed. So the problem is not the linux kernel itself, it is that big heap of weird sound software (pulse, alsa, whatever) all around it, which I never really understood and which keeps changing with every ubuntu release, which causes trouble. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/831972 Title: No HDMI sound with Intel core i7 and Z68 board To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/831972/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
