I have the same problem. My webcam used to work with Kubuntu 11.04 but
after an upgrade to 11.10 it doesn't.

$ dmesg | grep video
[    0.608367] pci 0000:00:02.0: Boot video device
[   20.726181] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 20.794367] acer_wmi: Brightness must be controlled by generic video driver
[ 20.831684] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Video WebCam (04f2:b044)
[ 20.888399] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

And every time I open Cheese or Kamoso I get the following messages:

[  402.800422] usb 2-4: USB disconnect, device number 7
[  403.056190] usb 2-4: new high-speed USB device number 8 using ehci_hcd
[ 403.228376] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device Video WebCam (04f2:b044)
[ 403.284638] input: Video WebCam as
/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2/2-4/2-4:1.0/input/input15

I tried with the lastest kernel packages

$ uname -a
Linux Kassius 3.2.0-030200rc7-generic #201112240135 SMP Sat Dec 24 06:35:57 UTC
