Public bug reported:

I used one of the Save to Disc functions (sorry not sure which - I was
experimenting)

When the select folder window was opened, the default location was my desktop.
I pressed ok directly (so no folder was mentioned in the select folder input
box)

A file was created on my desktop named: ae4cfadb-460f-4a32-964a-866f32010ae2
All the other folders and files on the desktop have gone! :-(

The book I was exporting was an epub purchased via kobobooks, downloaded
automatically on to Kobo Touch, imported in to library manually when
Kobo was connected.

The program had already done something similar a bit earlier when I was
saving a different file to disc. The Desktop folder became unavailable
in the File browser. I closed Calibre and other programs and the folder
'came back'.

I am running on Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit Gnome 3.2 desktop. Latest version
downloaded today per your supplied command.
