Public bug reported:
Immediate steps:
I booted into my 32-bit Ubuntu install to diagnose a failed boot from my 64-bit
Ubuntu install. When I tried to mount the root partition of the 64-bit install,
I got this:
mdutton@ubuntu32:~$ sudo mount /media/ubuntu64/
[sudo] password for mdutton:
Killed
(/media/ubuntu64 is an fstab mount point for a ext4 root partition)
The system continued running without any additional problems (AFAIK)
with the exception that when I tried the mount command again, the mount
process hung in an uninterruptable state.
Background:
>From my 64-bit Ubuntu install, I was trying to setup a VirtualBox virtual
>machine to mount the the 32-bit ubuntu partitions directly as a 'raw disk'
>using a vmdk file. (This is all on one hard-disk, sda.) I had created the vmdk

>to boot within the VM (independent of the raw disk stuff) when I took a break
>and shut the computer down. When I tried to boot back into the 64-bit install,
>the boot would bomb before gnome but I think after readahead finished. The
>console would show nothing until a dmesg line saying something like
>"Restarting". I booted into the 32-bit install to mount the 64-bit install
>root partition to check the dmesg output when the oops occurred.
