Public bug reported:

I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha1 (Precise) on two machines,
one Acer Aspire Aspire 5736Z with Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n (Broadcom
BCM43225).

$ lspci -vvnn | grep 14e4
04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM43225 802.11b/g/n
[14e4:4357] (rev 01)
05:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780
Gigabit Ethernet PCIe [14e4:1692] (rev 01)

By default (e.g. during the installation) there is no wireless
available. After installation it is possible to run the Ubuntu
Restricted drivers tool to activate the Broacom BCM 43225 STA driver

After that the wireless option in nm-applet appears, but it has the text
"wireless is disabled by hardware switch".

There is no true hardware switch on the laptop. However there is Fn+F3,
but it does not enable the wireless.

Dmesg shows:
[ 1536.159290] atkbd serio0: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0x93
on isa0060/serio0).
[ 1536.159293] atkbd serio0: Use 'setkeycodes e013 <keycode>' to make it known.

Expected result: Wireless Broadcom STA driver should enable the
"hardware" switch.

Workaround:
Remove the STA driver from the "Additional drivers" tool and install
alternative Broadcom driver with "sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
firmware-b43-installer"

Repeatability:
I also got the same error and symptoms installing Ubuntu 12.04 alpha1 on a HP
G5050 laptop, which has a Broadcom BCM4311 wireless device. It too got fixed
with the workaround described above.
