Did you try just opening the corresponding partition list and setting
the partition to blank? That should definitely work with Ubuntu 6.06.1 -
I'm not absolutely sure about 6.06 or Kubuntu.

This should get a lot easier once
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+spec/ubiquity-advanced-partitioner
is implemented, anyway.
