As promised, both my main rig and netbook were up continuously from Dec 25 through Jan 1. The main rig (wired) and the netbook (while wired) both had 'indicator-weather' crashs the morning of the 26th. (crash reports coming). Since the 26th the main rig (amd 64) has had numerous 'indicator-weather' disappearances, while the netbook (i386) has had none, either wired or wireless. Finally caught one of the main rig disappearances on Jan 1 (crash report also coming, for whatever it's worth).
I have noted other problems in the 64-bit setup which do not occur in the 32-bit setup, (unexplained freezes, unresponsive icons) so I can only conclude it isn't really an 'indicator-weather' problem, but a system quirk. Then again, what does a noob like me know? I'm glad I haven't recommended Ubuntu amd64 to any of my friends!
