As you can see at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/911214 I attempted
to mark my bug as a duplicate of another bug, but Launchpad refused to
accept the bug number, because it was itself marked as a duplicate of
something else. It failed with a meaningless warning message...
The following errors were encountered:
#760142 is not a valid bug number or nickname
Only when I figured out that only the terminal duplicate would be
accepted, things worked out.
Instead, the OP should be offered the choice of pointing to the
duplicate bug, or pointing direct to the number they said in the first
place.
