Public bug reported:
This happens usually during the day, thus I thought it may be a poorly
scheduled cron job, but I can't find anywhere that I can fix this.
At various points through the day, landscape-client runs
/usr/share/smart/smart update --after=60 and that process chews up 100%
CPU for some time. This can run for 30 minutes to an hour, maybe
longer, I don't know.
What I do know is that it runs the CPU usage up to 100% on at least one
core, heats the machine up, which triggers the fans to cycle up to full
speed and run for however long smart is running.
Also, the system itself becomes sluggish and I usually end up having to
manually kill landscape-client and smart to get my system back under
control.
I thought this was initially part of smartmontools and that landscape
was doing a health check on my hard drive, but it's actually part of
python-smartpm and I have no idea off hand what that does (and no time
to really research it).
How do I resolve this? I'd really like it if landscape didn't start
thrashing my machine in the middle of the workday when I need it most.
