Or,

you just move the whole script out of /etc/init.d/

Problem:
vdr won't open channels properly after boot.
i.e. No Channels

Temp Soloution:
Take the script out of /etc/init.d/vdr and put somewhere in your home dir.
Problem is I have to manually start it
sudo ./vdr

I contacted another developer who tried this soloution for Ubuntu

by adding:
while [ ! -d /dev/dvb/adapter0 ] ; do
       sleep 2
done

But remains the same.
