As far as I can tell, it's an incompatibility between the version of the transcoder and the version of dvd::rip. Iirc, and it's been a while since I got sick of dealing with it and moved to SuSE, the transcoder is a pretty old version but a newer version can't be installed due to a couple other dependencies.
