Public bug reported:

I'm running precise in a Virtualbox VM. When I use a generic kernel
('linux-generic' or 'linux-generic-pae'), CDs are auto-mounted normally.
But when I use the 'linux-virtual' kernel, I get the following error
when I insert a CD (.iso) in the VM:

Unable to mount VBOXADDITIONS_4.1.8_75467
Error mounting: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting
read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

The end of dmesg shows:

[ 154.400176] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3

Note that mounting the CD manually using 'mount' works as expected.
