** Description changed:

  During the boot process my notebook (an about 2 year old Dell Vostro
  1310) seems to halt for like 25-45 seconds before showing the boot
  splash. Nothing seems to happen (hdd led and cpu led hardly light up in
  between). When I disable the boot splash the only thing it shows is a
  blinking dash. The system on the machine is a fresh Kubuntu 11.10
  installation.
