As regards verification:
The lightdm branch in my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/misc),
which is identical with the branch in the oneiric-proposed MP except for the
first line in debian/changelog, has been installed and run successfully, and it
has been confirmed (see above) that it actually fixes the issue in this bug
report.
