Hi Don, I do not own an epson scanner so I cannot really help you with iscan, but I heard it helped people in many cases, so you should keep trying to get that working.
Did you upgrade Ubuntu/sane/sane-backends/simple-scan/... when the problem happened first? The problem happens when cancelling a scan job as well as after successfully finishing a single-page scan but does not happen, when scanning multiple pages, right?
