** Description changed: On Ubuntu 11.10 the notebook fan is nearly always running. It begins shortly after passing grub. Sometimes the fan is silent when shutting down after exiting X11 (and before the computer is off) so I could image that it relies on an module or X11 driver. I tried with and without vgaswitcheroo with no difference. I also tried the jupiter options but had no luck. Even there is no big difference wether using the integrated or dedicated graphic card. The fan is *always* running. Windows ran quitely and the fan was just sometimes running. So what I expect is that it would run equally silent. Under Windows it is even possible to "force silence" with an hotkey. The hotkey would be - 0xe0 0x2b 0xe0 0xab / keycode 210 = (keysym 0x1008ff43, XF86Launch3), state = 0x0 Different kernel versions (3, 3.1.4 and 3.2-rc…) also made no difference. I would be really *very* happy if there would be an fix for it. I assume that the other models of this series (700Z4A and 700Z5A) are also affected. --- ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111011) NonfreeKernelModules: wl Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash Tags: oneiric Uname: Linux 3.1.4-030104-generic x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: + **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** + card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC269 Analog [ALC269 Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: alex 2276 F.... pulseaudio + CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'PCH'/'HDA Intel PCH at 0xc0800000 irq 49' + Mixer name : 'Intel CougarPoint HDMI' + Components : 'HDA:10ec0269,144dc0b3,00100202 HDA:80862805,80860101,00100000' + Controls : 18 + Simple ctrls : 10 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 + EcryptfsInUse: Yes + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111011) + MachineType: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B + NonfreeKernelModules: wl + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + PATH=(custom, user) + LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.0.0-12-generic root=/dev/mapper/sda3_crypt ro quiet splash fbcon=map:0 hybridopts=ON,IGD,OFF vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.0.0-12-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.0.0-12-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.60 + StagingDrivers: brcmutil mei brcmsmac + Tags: oneiric staging + Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 11/02/2011 + dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies Ltd. + dmi.bios.version: 09FD + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B + dmi.board.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.board.version: FAB1 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 9 + dmi.chassis.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.chassis.version: 0.1 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLtd.:bvr09FD:bd11/02/2011:svnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:pn700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B:pvr0.1:rvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:rn700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B:rvrFAB1:cvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:ct9:cvr0.1: + dmi.product.name: 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B + dmi.product.version: 0.1 + dmi.sys.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916621/+attachment/2674927/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916621 Title: fan of 700Z3A is always noisy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/916621/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
