Thanks for the above, I didn't find anything obviously wrong in these.

Can you also attach:
 - ls -l "/run/"
 - "ifconfig -a"
 - "dpkg -l"
 - "initctl status"

One case where the above could be possible is if you only have a
loopback interface on your system and no other interfaces or
NetworkManager doesn't emit net-device-up IFACE=ethX for your other
interfaces.

Hopefully the output from these few commands should help figure out
exactly what's happening or at least help me reproduce the issue on a
system I have around here.
