Hi,
For Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits I found a Official Brother's link :

It is called "I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. I cannot scan from my Brother
Machine." and it consists to copy Brother's libraries from /usr/lib64
to /usr/lib
For me, It's work !
