No, running dist-upgrade doesn't solve the problem.
The output from dist-upgrade was:
The following packages have been kept back:
libboost-date-time-dev libboost-dev libboost-iostreams-dev
libboost-regex-dev
plus there were a few packages that _were_ installed or upgraded. I lost
the output from dist-upgrade, but if I run it again it shows the part
mentioned above, plus 0 upgraded / 0 installed etc.
The 4 packages that were "kept back" actually are the ones that show up
unchecked and uncheckable in Update Manager.
I'm not sure whether there were more of them before I ran dist-upgrade.
