christhehorton, have you noticed that FFmpeg had been forked and the fork named Libav is used in Ubuntu (starting from 11.04)? I've learned about it only after googling for that "avconv" program. FFmpeg & Libav have different release version numbers (and probably some other things), which causes some confusion...
