I STRONGLY disagree with this!

Firstly, if I click a link in an email, it's because I want to look at
the contant of that link NOW, not later when it's loaded.

Secondly, not popping the window to the front means I don't get to know
if the link was valid or whether my browser has actually started to load
the page or not... you break the whole visual feedback process by not
showing the window to the user.

Thirdly, this would completely baffle people's grandparents.
