For anybody seeing this bug, I found the solution. I revisited the issue
today because I wanted to get rid of the ndiswrapper+net5211.inf
workaround. I found out that I needed to add nohwcrypt to the ath5k
options as described in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/568090.
