Sorry, no. It's required that byobu's usr/bin/byobu* are in your path.
See the README:
6) Update your PATH and BYOBU_PREFIX environment variables
echo "export PATH=$HOME/byobu/bin:$PATH" >> $HOME/.bashrc
. $HOME/.bashrc
Please do the same with your zsh. I'll can add an equivalent line for
zsh in the README, I suppose. But I'm not going to comprehensively
change all of Byobu's source code to use BYOBU_PREFIX for binaries that
are required to be in your path, per Byobu's installation instructions.
