Why is this still even an issue?

After some searching through the bugs here I went back on to the web and
did some searches. It seems this problem has been around since at least
Ubuntu 10.04. Or earlier?

The problem seems to be the file; 40cdrom

The solution; sudo rm /usr/lib/ubiquity/apt-setup/generators/40cdrom

This can be done in Terminal from the trial Ubuntu running from the USB
drive. Then just click on the instal icon.

Sure worked for me.

Maybe I just don't know how to do a proper search hear but it sure
didn't take me long to find some suggested links with a Google search.
And now that I know this solution, Googling "sudo rm /usr/lib/ubiquity
/apt-setup/generators/40cdrom" comes up with four pages of links.

Ubuntu claims to be so user friendly. Well, something so basic as an
inability to install it argues to the contrary. Frustrating new an
future users does not bode well. This needs to be fixed immediately in
the installer and for those already struggling with the problem a fix
should be widely noted and easily available.

I'm not the most tech savy but I have been using Ubuntu since at least
08.04, maybe earlier. There have been problems along the way and some
rather perplexing but for the most part I've enjoyed the ride. Ubuntu
has continued to improve but for me the advent of Unity has not been
good. And a problem this basic shakes my confidence further.

I've been trying to function under Unity but in 11.04 I must confess I
usually booted into the classic desktop. Now minus that opption, well,
I'm trying harder but it's still just not working for me.

I'd like to stay with Ubuntu so I guess next I'll be trying an install
of another desktop.

Sorry, got a little off topic there.
