1) Precise already has GTK 3.3, so you shouldn't have to fiddle around
with it.
2) This is not a unity bug.
3) Ubuntu uses a modified GTK, so even though both Ubuntu's GTK and
GNOME's GTK are binary compatible, issues like these seem to be internal
GTK problems caused due to GNOME's GTK not fitting well with the rest of
Ubuntu
