Matej you can also install gnome-compiz-effects instead of messing
with the broken desktop-effects capplet.  It'll be under
System>Preferences>GL Desktop.  I used alacarte
(System>Preferences>Main Menu) to remove the desktop-effects capplet
from the preferences menu altogether.
