Public bug reported:

Insert usb drive (memory stick). Works. Write data. Right click to
unmount. Click eject. Get warning telling me to wait. Get message
telling me it's safe.

However, based on the instructions from Verbatim (manuf. of drive), it
was not safe. The activity light was still flashing.

Once upon a time, I removed a usb drive after unmount but before the
light stopped flashing. I trashed the data on that drive.

The bug is that the "safe" message appears to quickly. I suggest a
change to the "safe to remove" message to wait until the activity light
stops flashing before removing.
