It looks like this bug is a duplicate and it is now fixed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/852406 along with the fix message at #44 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/852406/comments/44 which requires kernel 3.0.0-14.23 (I'm on 3.0.0-12-generic so will have to wait for an update).
